'72 XJ6 Door Seal Installation

I'm new to this forum, so I hope I'm doing this correctly. I've had a 1972 XJ-6 since 1975 that has been parked for the last ten years. I'm getting it back in shape and I'm almost there (if you ever really get there). I ordered a replacement front left door seal and it appears that the base of the seal is "pressed" into a channel. However, I'd like to hear from someone who has knowledge in the replacement of these seals before I start - the old one doesn't want to just pull out and I don't want to remove it until I know the correct procedure for doing so and the correct procedure for installing the new one. Can anyone help?

Regards,

Bruce

When you get the ordered seal, pull or rip the old one out. As you have the replacement in hand you will then be able to see how it is installed. Sometimes you have to use a screwdriver to pull get it out of the channel. These seals are a straight forward and easy replacement. Glue where necessary and tape ( masking or painters not duct or cellophane ) until dry. Use 3M weatherstrip adhesive.
