Well I decided to restore the windscreen frame while I'm waiting for new crash pads to arrive. The frame is in remarkably good condition. I removed the windshield by using a razor knife to slice the inside rubber flush with the frame. The glass literally fell out of the front. I stripped it completely of hardware and the cracking textured vinyl. Some Goof-Off and lacquer thinner made quick work of removing any remaining contact cement. It's been sanded and I applied some Rust Mort in a few areas, let it dry, wiped it down and primed it with Rustoleum. A few top coats of Rustoleum semi-gloss are drying now and it looks great. My next area of concern is the inside of the frame. I bought some leather textured vinyl and stripped the backing off. I plan on applying it with contact cement and see how it turns out. I kind of think the leather look inside may add a bit of class to it. I wanted to save a few bucks and skip the kit that can be bought and do something special myself. Without the backing the vinyl is very supple, feels like leather, and stretches easily. I don't want to overstretch it, I just want to lay it down and press it in to conform well in the corners. The visors are ok, a littly vinyl paint will make them look new, the visor hardware will get a blast of baking soda, primer and paint. Condsidering buying a new anodized top piece but not sure. Any alternatives to restoring this piece other than buying new? I just rambling about what I'm doing to the car right now. Any comments are appreciated.
