Spitfire '71-'80 Spitfire battery box removal.

Have any of you removed the factory battery box from the '71 to '80 Spitfires. I have new ones for my '72 and '79 but I'm not sure of how to get the old ones out. Anyone with experience doing this...give me some directions please.

Well, if you trust my fading memory I replaced the battery box in my first Triumph about 25 years ago. As I recall, you can drill out the spot welds that hold it in place - the hard part are the brackets on each side - I only drilled them out along the battery, then I believe I bent them out of the way to pull the box, then bent them back. That memory part is sketchy but I recall it is the toughest part of the job.
 
That helps. My biggest concern is those brackets. I was looking at bending them back as you did or completely removing them. I don't like to bend metal since it streches and sometimes won't bend back just like it was but I don't want to have to position and re-weld them either. I think I'll just drill out the welds where the brackets meet the top of the battery box and easily bend them back just enough to get the old box out. So, I'll use your method. THANKS!!
 
OK...I'll re-post as "follow up-sfire battery box" and tell what you can expect to have to remove from the car and how many welds I had to drill out and the general locations. I plan to do my '79 first but it may be 2 or 3 weeks...I'm doing alot of projects now.
