MGB-GT 70 BGT floor gets wet when it rains

Seems to only happen when it sits outside in the rain, not when moving through the rain.

Drivers side floor gets wet, only when raining - Passenger side stays dry.
Where should I look for this leak? How do I fix it?

Make sure the drain tube from the fresh air vent isn't clogged. If it is, you probably have a world of rust and nasty sludge in there, which causes it to overflow into the passenger compartment.

Where do you find this tube?

Under the car at the right side of the gearbox is the exit. A coathanger and KEEP yer EYES out from under it!

Should be a black rubber "Ball-like" bulb there.

It's pretty tough to spot, and take Doc's advise about not laying under it as you unclog. It gets really filthy and smelly as the crud dumps out of there.

What a great design...

Ok, well it's pouring buckets of rain / snow mix right now.
Maybe it will clear up in something less that 40 days & 40 nights...

In addition to the fresh air vent that you get to from up underneath the car (& its probably clogged whether its the culprit or not)...what about the rubber seal beneath both the windshield washer & the wiper arm? If they're cracked or gone, water goes inside...

The downpour turned to great big wet snow flakes & everything is white outside. It was rainy & wet all day then boom all this huge snow started falling.
Maybe it will go away soon (not what my kids are thinking but...).

And it doesn't taste very good either!

eww. When did they start installing said black bulblike recepticle?

Been there all along, Vince. Replacing the rubber tube is an exercise in "ship-in-a-bottle" building, BTW. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Question asked beacuse I only noticed it for the first time when I cut through it on the 74 GT junker I had OOPS!. My '67 does not have one but it's never outside so it never clogs. Another '67 GT I picked up seems to have it so I figger'd I'd axe.

I haven't found a replacement for the rubber tube/bulb. Don't chew up another one! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Hiya! Welcome to th' mayhem!

Hi Mike, Glad you are here!
You should put up a post in the New Members forum and be sure to visit Spridgets as well.

For everyone else, Mike is the generous guy who sent me the License plate globe for my 70 BGT mentioned in another recent thread!
We both have 1970 split bumper MGB's and we both have Spridgets!
WooHoo for another new member, Welcome Mike! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Hey Rick
Thanks buddy, think I'm gonna like it here. I loved seeing the globe on the car in service already, was my pleasure.
Mike

Just be warned, Mike: This place is near real-time. Not a forum to posit a question and check back in a few days... You'll have a day's worth of reading if you do it that way. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Again, WELCOME !

It's funny to me that the last post here in the MG forum was 13+ hours ago while over in Spridgets there have been a dozen active threads this morning.

What DrE said is very true of the Spridgets people.
Some of which are also here, owning at least some kind of MG other than Midgets & Sprites. Some with many more, like MGC's and 1100's and Magnettes and MGA, MGB, etc etc...

But the Spridget area seems to be where the "near real time" thing really is true! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cowboy.gif

Oh, and BTW I'll get under the MGB & find that hose after the snow & ice are gone and the sun comes out!
