1969 Spitfire seats......do the rails bolt directly to the floor, or is there supposed to be something in between the rail and the floor pans?

Maybe it is just me, but i feel these seats are too low.

what would be the best way to SAFELY raise the seats an inch or two? i am thinking of cutting some square tubing to the same length as the rails and drilling holes at the appropriate spots. If everything bolts tightly down, is this a safe method to raise the seats?

One could argue that adding a spacer you might add another shear point, but I think that's relative to the overall safety of the vehicle. Not like a spit was designed with side impact and crumple zone protection.

By way of comparison, a 2004 Airbag equipped Morgan used a block of wood between the seats and the plywood floorboards to raise the seats.

I'd think the box section would be stonger than the OE floor, the seat frame, and probably the OE bolts used to mount the seats.

Food for thought.
