67 Sprite Engine Paint

Trevor suggested some of you Big Healey Concourse type of guys could maybe answer a question I have - What is the correct engine color for a 67 Sprite and where might I obtain some?

POR-15 shows "Austin Healey Green" engine enamel, but it's about as dark as BRG

Moss just lists "Olive Drab" for the engine enamel

Most photos I've seen of Big Healeys show the color to be a pretty light green metallic -

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Rob, The correct color for Sprite engine paint was the darker, almost "Forest" green. I know Moss used to sell it, as did Mini Mania. Kind of "Army Racing Green". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The big cars used the lighter green metallic.

Bob,
The 12ce and 12cd prefix engine were the lighter green like the big cars, then came the 12v it was black. Pre 12ce engines were all the darker green. This is sourced from "Original Sprite and Midget" by Terry Horler.
Hope this helps.

Jeff,
The first 1275cc engines carried the 12cc prefix but this was replaced by the 12ce intermittently from han9-71937 to han9-72670 (dec. 1967) from which point all engines were 12ce except for north america. From November 1967 american cars were prefixed 12cd .Jeff, Bob is maybe on the cusp, but I think you are right about the dark green. So Bob whats your prefix? Once again source is the same.

Jeff,

Prefix may be unreliable in this case because the engine in the car isn't original - the Valve cover has an MG logo on the plate.

I think I'll go with the consensus of opinion that the darker green is correct - And Great Thanks to all of you who answered my thread!!

Jeff, jv,

I've already stripped the heretic logo plate from the valve cover and ordered correct plates from Moss. I'm surprised the auto ran at all - sorta like putting a Ford distributor in a Chevy eh?

Once again, thanks for all the replies to my post guys!
