66 Sprite Door Panel

Hello,
Well been off on vacation all week and managed a few hours in the garage. The Mrs. list is very long.
I have made new door panels and have covered one. It seems to push the door out a little and I am wondering if the panel is too large. My question.
Does the door rubber seal butt up against the door metal or does it butt up against the covered door panel. My situation, when you close the door the rubber seal butts up against the door panel and pushes the door out. I have bent the rubber seal out and adjusted the door with little change. To me it looks like I need to make the door panel a half-inch smaller so that the rubber butts up to the door metal.

Think the seal should be aginst the metal part of the door.

Hello Jack,
I think so too. Anybody with a square Sprite out there who can confirm this

I just look at a picture of my 1964 Sprite and the rubber buts up to inside panel. The inside panel goes to the bottom of the door.

Cheers

Something has to be wrong here, how could the seal make good seal with the padding and such in the way.

Just looking at pics in Horler The orginal Sprite & Midget. The door covering is set back from the edge so that the rubber contacts the metal part of the door and the trim part overlaps the door panel a bit.

Picture I scooped from ebay 1965 MG Midget

See that small lip of red around the edge, the rubber goes there. The trim strip goes against the door panel.
