It did NOT require a leak down test or even a compression test. It was NOT blown head gasket or warped head. It was a six dollar diaphram on the PCV valve. Old, brittle and cracked. NO ONE suggested that idea. You folks really know your stuff...

Drove her home the other day when I pulled in the driveway I saw she was smoking-a lot. Seems like a white smoke. Havent torqued the head in a long time. Was going to look for "steam cleaned" plugs tonight. Oil looks normal. What might I check first? Dave

I used to have a '67 MBG, 1972, and had a simliar problem. Took it too a great mechanic who told me to buy a rubber diaphram for the valve located on top of the engine(can't remember what's it called), but the diaphram hardens and it causes the engine to suck oil. Changed it and problem went away.daver80 said:66 B, rebuilt engine (rings, cam, pistons, valves the whole deal) about 19 years ago but probably havent put much over 30k miles since. I suggested it. Oh well, I'll stick to Healeys where I really know my stuff. (no pun intended). It was $1.65 when I bought diaphram in 1972.Mickey Richaud said:daver80 said:To all of you "experts" out there- I'm the original poster with the smoking MGB. Problem is solved. 1) Glad you found the issue.
2) NONE of us were anywhere near the car to discern WHAT white "smoke" was eminating from the pipe.
3) 30K over 15+ years means the thing SAT INERT much of that time, ~ANYTHING~ mentioned could've been suspect. The responders gave you guidelines to determine WHAT was right or wrong, in good faith.

4) Bad manners are NOT OUR problem. That initial description is hardly rife with data, BTW.
5) Glad you found the issue.
6) Mind that door on your way out, Sparky.
