Spitfire '65 Spitfire temp control valve

I believe the temp control valve cable on my MKII Spit is not connected correctly.

Reference Haynes, Page 82, Fig 2.15 "Heater coolant temperature control valve.

From the diagram in Haynes it appears that the cable passes between the firewall and the valve so when the control knob is pushed in [to stop the cabin heat] the valve would rotate clockwise.

My cable is connected on the engine side of the valve so when the knob is pushed in the valve rotates counter-clockwise.

My question is: Which direction does the valve rotate to admit hot water to the heater coil?

Peter, Think this is the same heater control valve on your Spitfire (this one is on a '68 GT6). Both photos show it in the full open position - allowing coolant to flow to the heater. Hope this helps.
