'60 Bugeye - getting it back on the road

I posted some time ago about getting a 1960 Bugeye back on the road. Well, I finally got it to my house and plan on getting it going in time for Spring.

It was originally my dad's car but it has been sitting for about 10 years. The car is fairly complete but does have some problems. The fuel tank is leaking in one corner area. Fuel does not pour out put it does drip rather heavily. Also, I'm not sure if the electric fuel pump is working properly. Does everyone use the electric fuel pumps or do some of you still stick with the original mechanical version?

Also, any tips, hints, experience etc that you can pass on will be greatly appreciated.

First of all, drain fuel tank and take to local radiator shop for repair if possible. Get that fixed first and foremost or your new BE may go up in a fireball, taking you and garage, and house and SO with you. No orries, just drain the tank and get a radiator shop to look at. Can be soldered with soldering iron by a good shop.

Welcome aboard

My suggestion:
Spend time on the brakes and steering first. Be sure it is safe. Otherwise, once you get it running you'll be tempted to take it for a spin and may not be able to stop.

Agree, agree, agree!!!

Brakes, steering and suspension! Keep the tires on the ground!
