6 steering column loose

My column is loose, not the bearings but the column itself. All the bolts are tight. The whole things moves up and down till it hits the dash. What else is there to tighen the column with other thasn the four bolts under the dash. Is something broken like a weld?

Re: 6 steering column loose

Nevermind, I found 'em. The two nuts directly behind the dash just above the switch right where you can't get to.

Re: 6 steering column loose

There is a bracket welded under the dash up near the firewall that can break away also. If you grasp the column by the firewall inside the engine bay and it moves around a lot that may be the case. I used a very large hose clip to tie mine down to the still attached part of the bracket and it has been fine for many years.

Re: 6 steering column loose

It wasa the two nuts. Nice and tight now. Man that drove me nuts. I don;t like sliding through a turn holding onto a steering wheel that moves.
