6-Cylinder Race Torque

I thought I would share what a stock motor mount can look after a couple race seasons holding the big six down.

The mount on the right is from the drivers right-side and has started to implode. My new heavy duty upgrade is from AH Spares: https://www.ahspares.co.uk/products/productdetail.aspx?GUID=7577c9a1-0f96-44a1-926c-58d2f3fc4775.

I built up the sides even further where mine collapsed with addition welds to ensure they can hold the stress and torque of my upgraded race motor. Replacement of both motor mounts seemed wise at this point, the chassis brackets are also strengthened with gussets.

Any body else have this problem?

Another picture. Plus the two different metallic motor greens. Moss aerosol on the old motor mount right. UK's Cape International liquid quart on the new mount left.

Dougie -

Wow, thanks for that. I'll have to go check my mounts!

How about the box mounts on the chassis, are they ok or is there some bending and cracking in there too?

Cheers,

Alan

dougie,
are the little top rubbers shimmed for the appropriate clearance, as once torsional rotation starts its F=MA
with the racing beach buggies we tie them down with chain so as to stop them wanting to twist the block rather than turn the wheels
Why not weld a plate across the two ends of the C channel to box in the area between the two welds you have done?

Barely visible, you can see the piece of angle that was used (4-places) to reinforce the then cracking mounts on my BN6. This was done about twenty-five (25) years ago. With the engine in place...

Interesting, when I inspected my chassis after media blasting I found the motor mounts on the frame to be stress cracked....every one! This really surprised me because my car was a pretty low mileage car....35,000 on the clock and the speedo was working...and this car was not raced. I didn't find any issues with the motor mount brackets that Dougie is showing. I've added 4 gussets to each motor mount pedistal. Pic enclosed show 2 of the 4 on drivers side. Oh, and I cut the mounts opened and welded up the cracks on the inside of the motor mounts before closing up and putting in the gussets.

You guys might want to check yours.

Cheers,
Steve
