Amazing, to replace a head gasket on one of these trucks, you have to pull the cab off the chassis! Where was a designers head when he/she drew these up? Of course, where was the guys head when he excepted the design. I was in a repair shop the other day when I saw a late model Ford truck with the cab up in the air off the chassis on a lift and asked why. I was told they were changing the head gaskets. Normal procedure! Crazy! PJ

They try to keep us from doing it. Saw on 2 guys garage, job done in truck?

I know that's a stupid set up, but why would you need to replace the head gaskets on a 3 year old truck! My 93 Chevy, that I bought new in 93, with the exception of oil changes, has never had the engine touched with a wrench in 20 years and has pulled trailers across the country many times. Doesn't say much for Ford does it.

The 6.0s are known to be junk. I won't buy a Ford truck made after the last square bodied '96. I recently bought an '89 F150 w/ 106K with a 300 and a rebuilt C6 for a reason. The 7.3s are great trucks just way expensive for even high mile units. Supposedly the 6.0s are ok once you fix all of the bugs; which there are many from what I understand. If you think things are bad now, just wait 20 years....

Ford has had issues with their diesels ever since they started turbo charging them. The head design wouldn't handle the over boost and would blow the head gaskets under pressure. The 6.0 was an International engine which dates back to the 60s in design, and was never meant to be boosted. The larger International engines had a more robust head design utilizing 6 bolts per cyl. as opposed to the 6.0's 4 bolts per cyl, that can handle the extra pressure associated with a turbo charger.
