I think I was 19 when that happened and it was devastating to everyone. All of us kids thought it was the end of rock and roll, made that big of an impact. Sad, very sad. PJ
 
SWMBO's cousins from Britain made the trek from England for this anniversary for a number of years - there are various events to remember.
 
It took me a second with the Don McLean song since I saw that first, was thinking, ??? that was current when I was young, and I am not even close to 59 yet, ok maybe sort of close, but still the math wasn't working. Then I looked at the rest and got it. 50s music had a resurgence when I was growing up, "American Graffiti" "Happy Days" lots of 50s greatist hits albums, etc. The day the music died was still talked about quiet a bit then, so I remember it well, though I didn't actually live it.
 
The day the music died was a sad day indeed for many of us who are "of a certain age."
