Hello experienced Sprite owners.
After a complete restoration of a 1959 Sprite including a 1098cc engine it has a clattering sound at idle near the timing chain cover. We used a new chain on old good looking sprockets. Took the cover off and noticed a relatively loose chain. Not having any experience what constitute a loose chain opinions of restorers vary if the chain looseness creates that clatter.
The lower end was inspected with no bearing damage found. The bores were bored 20 over and new plus 20 pistons were installed. The performance is very good as determined by having owned a 1958 Sprite in the 60's. Overhauled that engine. Autocrossed it a lot with no engine problems, except a sheared halve shaft.
Any definitive remarks would be greatly appreciated.
