57 Plymouth to be unearthed

That'll be intresting to see. Watch this, the capsule will crumble when they try to unearth it, crushing the car, or it will have leaked, and there'll be 8 inches of water in it.
I hope it comes out pristine. (just needing the dried up rubber bits) that'd be cool.

I wonder if the case of beer exploded.

Wait a minute.....is Geraldo going to open it? Then it's gonna be EMPTY!

They recovered several cases of Bass from the Titanic. It was skunk, but drinkable.
Don't think I'd care for any that was in the trunk of that car though.

I wonder if they'll be diputes over who owns the car?
Could you imagine what some idiot would pay if it was a
'57 Chevrolet,instead of a Plymouth.
Also, imagine trying to tell the dealer back then that
Plymouth wouldn't be around in 2007?

Mopar. The capsule will disintegrate, & the car will be holding it up. File the points & put in 600 gallons of gas, it will start right up, drive 20,000 miles outrunning cop cars, & then they'll remember to put oil & water in it.

My friend Angelo VanBogart is the editor of Old Cars Weekly and he's headed to Tulsa on Thursday to cover the unearthing of the car.

I'll give you a full report next week...

WOHOO!!! Our very own 'roving reporter'!!

I saw some photos elsewhere (found it at the Miata forum) that showed the initial unearthing of the Plymouth. It was wrapped up, and the canvas appeared to be covered in dirt (dunno if it spilled in during excavation). There appears to be some water in the bottom, but not that much.

Ah, heres the link:

Am interested to see the final unveiling. Am I the only one who thinks it's funny that the "contents of a woman's purse" included tranquilizers?

PS-speakin' of old beer, a friend of mine's Dad has his own bar in the basement (it's beautiful, bar, register, a slot machine, barstools, just beautiful-calls it "The Wagon Wheel") with a big collection of old beer cans. One of them is a still full can of Billy Beer. I'm told it was bad when it was fresh....

Looks a bit tatty from here. They DID have Saran Wrap in 1957... they shoulda been a bit more conscientious when they loaded the vault, methinks. Ain't gonna be pristine, fer sure.

Sad. The comments from those who're kinda ignorant as to the meaning of both history and preservation of it have my dander up a bit, too.

I hope they choke on their latte's. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

As for the Plymouth, whatever the condition: it was put in there to represent to these ingrates the way things were the day it was "planted". Where ~else~ on the planet would current dwellers have THAT kind of touchstone to daily life IN THEIR OWN TOWN just two or three generations back? The self-loathing exhibited by those few is frightening.

OH NO!!!
Oh well.. even in the condition it's in it's a really neat thing.
HOpe the little propane tank "time capsule" made it.
I think they should put the car on perminant display somewhere, just the way it is.
That's it's history.

After seein all the water that was in that vault, and what I'm sure it's gonna be like at the unveiling tomorrow, I bet lots of people are glad it wasen't a 57 Chevy.

I'm kinda dissapointed. I thought they were gonna take the sealed vault to the arena to open it in front of everybody. The BIG surprise had already happened. We know what the overall condition is now.
