I don't recall the actual date, just that we got out early. I do remember watching the caisson moving the body from the White House to the Capitol to lie in state. Saw that footage again not too long ago, never really realized how grainy and indistinct it was at the time.

Mike, I lived in Fort Worth, and had seen JFK give a speech that morning. Heard the news when the principal played the radio coverage throughout our high school.

If I recall correctly, pretty much the whole country came to a halt for three days. Where I lived in Texas, the TV stations broadcast *nothing* but news coverage, and Barber's "Adagio for Strings", all the way from Thursday night until Sunday.

That music always reminds me of the assassination. Sad times.

I was living in England at the time and saw the news on our New colour TV. It had 3 channels and only BBC 2 was in colour as I remember.

My fiancee and I were on a train from Liverpool to Gloucester.
I rember the BBC program, That Was The Week That Was, and their shortened program Saturday night, a tribute to JFK. Millicent Martin sang In the summer of his years, it was extraordinarily moving.
I think you can still find it on Youtube or somewhere.

TW3 was my Ol' Fella's fave at the time.

I was going into Goody's restaurant - long gone - when a man came out and told me "Did you hear? The president was shot". There was dead silence in the restaurant. A bizarre and sad 48 hours.

I remember it well. I was with a friend headed into the city to shop. I stopped for gas in North Brookfield, MA. Mr. Yanusas, station owner, came out with tears in his eyes and told us that the president was just shot. He went back into the station and we went back to my friend's house and sat in front of the television. The rest of the day was simply a blur.

I was only 9 years old, but I remember that day. I think I was already home from school with a cold and remember "We interrupt this program" (not sure what I was watching). It was coincidence that exactly 9 years later, on the same date, I took the oath to join USAF.
