5 speed need overhaul??

I'm wondering if my Datsun 5sp would benefit from an overhaul.
Its noisey in all gears cept 4th. Of course 4 is straight thru so I suspect rough bearings, gears or both on the lay gears. Grease is normal and sycros OK.
I've had trans that were overhauled in the past not end up a lot quieter. Does a good one sound the same in all gears in a spridget? Does an overhauled one sound as good?
Just wondering.

Do I understand correctly that you are using grease in this gearbox instead of oil? The shop manual for my 210 trans calls for oil. Could this be a cause of excessive noise?

I guess I always have referred to 90 wt on up as grease 90 wt is what is called for and what I am using though datsun advised heavier oil/grease to quiet a noisey trans and I believe I added a little 140wt when I refilled last. I had a noisey trans overhauled a few years back and the shop gave me the parts that were replaced. Bearings were worn and rough but replacing them did'nt quiet the trans a lot. I suspect that once the gears are worn that a little noise will remain. Is noticable noise in the gears other than 4th common? What says the group?
Thanks, Kurt.

My Datsun transmission is quiet in all gears.

Thanks Trevor, I probably need this one gone thru. Anybody tuned in that has had one done? The last I had done by the local Amco I was'nt all that happy with so maybe I'll ship it to one of the kit supplier's.

Mine is VERY quiet in all gears.
You may want to talk to Paul Asgeirsson about a rebuild, I would absolutely trust his work!

I had river gate over haul mine. It was a little whinny in first for about 1000 miles but its now really quite

Thanks folks, now I have to decide if I want to pull it and miss out on spring "spridgeting" or wait.
