5 Speed info?

Where can I find info on what 5 speed transmission will work in my 1500 75 Midget? I am at the point where I either need to rebuild or replace the tranny soon. I have Googled the topic but figured you guys could help me find more specific info and reviews as I research my options. Thanks, cindy

Cindy, a Frontline 5 speed kit is going to set you back about $1700.00 plus shipping from the UK, and you are pretty much going to have to cut your transmission tunnel out.
You would be further ahead to convert the car to a 1275 engine and use the Rivergate setup. Then, there are no modifications required to the car.
Either way you go, it ain't gonna be cheap!

Uhm, OK Another thought would be to find a triumph overdrive transmission. It doesn't require as many body mods to fit. But, they are hard to find and would probably need to be rebuilt. I'm just throwing ideas out here. I have a 1275, so I have no real experience.

I've looked at this idea (5 speed in 1500) in the past. I'm not crazy about the regular, all-syncro 4 speed, but swapping for a 5 speed is a headache and expensive.
The only popular 5 speed that can fit within the tiny confines of the Midget tunnel is from the old rwd Datsun 210. No one makes a kit to adapt the 1500 to the Datsun 210 trans.
Rimmer will sell you a rebuilt late model single rail gearbox (your stock unit) for about $450 USD but they are in the UK, so the shipping would be a killer (*and* you'd have to ship your old core-trans back to them as well).
I'd look on e-Bay or see if a local trans shop will rebuild your existing unit. Rimmer info is here:

Have you seen this fellow's work?

He's in the UK, but it seems that the project is doable once you find a good type 9.
