5 Speed Datsun Transmission

I have 2 '78 Datsun B210's - the one I'm working on
(4 speed),& a parts car (5 speed - FS5W63A).
Is the 63A worth anything? I'm trying to decide which
transmission to put into the car I'm working on.If the 5-
speed's not worth much,I'll install it on the original 4-
speed car.If it's worth something,I'll reinstall the 4-
speed,& sell the 5 speed.
This car's been tieing up my garage for 3-1/2 years,
& I need to do something to make room for the '67 MGB GT.

Doug,
From what I understand, This 5 speed can be made to work in the Sprite/Midget, but it takes considerable work..enough that 99.9% of folks don't attempt it.
The "FL" trans is the bolt-in with the various adapter kits out there.

If wrong..I;m sure someone will correct me!

The useful transmissions are from '79-'82 B210. The following is from Rivergate:

The serial number on top of the bellhousing should begin with the letter "F" (FL, FA, FX etc. OK). The number "60" is cast into the right side of the main case. These transmissions come from the Datsun 210, but the model number for these cars, imbedded in the Serial Number, is B310. The model number for the transmission, FS5W60A, is sometimes found on the Serial Number plate on the firewall. This is not found on the transmission.

I have seen them on ebay from $400 to $800. Not sure if yours is the right model.

There are several folks that make conversion kits that are "reasonably" simple to install if you have all the correct parts.

Good luck.

If I were you I'd head over to one of the Datsun forums and see if anyone there would guess at it's value.

Look for the one that has the 60 on the side. The Datsun 210 is not the same car as the Datsun B210 and they had different trannies. You want the Datsun 210 or the B310. In 79 they made a dogleg version that according to those in the know were a tad stronger. The one I got bolts straight up to a Datsun 210 engine and fits in the tunnel of my Midget with no adjustments.

Here's my favorite Datsun board (drivetrain area):

The 63 series Datsun 5 speed is the strongest of the Datsun 5 speed tranny's. If it won't fit easily into a spridget I would definetly consider putting it in the Datsun B210. Overdrive 5 speed at the highway speeds of today would be a plus.

When you say strongest of the 5 speeds, you mean 210 5 speeds or Datsun overall? Is the 63 the Z/ZX tranny?

Thanks for the input.
Rick - I check the Ratsun website all the time.
After posting there,I think I'll put the 5 speed
in.
The front driveshaft yoke on the 4 speed is
about 1/4" smaller in diameter than the 5 speed.

I should have said strongest of the tranny's that bolt up to the A serie's datsun motor. Of course there are others that I'm not familiar with for later and larger engines. I believe the 5 speed out of Z cars is a swap in a MGB with a Rivergate kit.
