5 speed 210 conversion and shifter question?

Hello guys,

I have a 67 Sprite that has the conversion to the 79-80 5 speed Datsun trans. Here is a question since I have not messed with trans before... What is entailed about changing the shifter lever itself? Chrome lever and knob combo.
And/or does anyone have an extra shifter knob that will fit that is not an aftermarket with the universal adapters (allen screws that work loose?)Will other Datsun knobs, and I assume they have meteric threads, switch out? I know it is a minor thing, but aftermarket stuff seems a bit crappy. I do have a new moss Austin-Healy Sprite walnut knob that will fit the factory shifter should any of you have a possible trade?
Thanks,

I was lucky, I found a 5 sp shift knob on ebay. I also have a walnut sprite shift knob. what I did with it was run the correct meteric tap in it. the threads are aluminum and tap real easy. Put a correct size meteric nut on the shifter first as a lock nut

I cut the datsun shifter and tacked on the original spridget shifter lever. This allowed me to position the shifter at a comfortable angle.

The Morrisservice kit that I used included a cut-down datsun shifter recut to the standard british size. My shift knob swapped right over just like everything else.

Rivergate will make the union for you (210 end to trans and sprite end to shifter) if you want for pretty cheap. They do it all the time for the conversions they do, so they have done loads of them.

Thanks guys. I did bid on some Datsun shifters with knobs on ebay and won them. I will give it a shot then check out Rivergate.

I took the stock Datsun shifter, cut it down, heated it up and bent it to fit the stock Sprite metal shift can.
I then ground it down around the neck and rethreaded it 5/16s x 18 to take a Sprite shifter.
It fits, it works, and it looks correct.

I just cut the Datsun shifter off, drill and tap 5/16 course thread and put in a piece of all-thread, works very well and is easy to do.
