TR4/4A 4A Scuttle Vent Seal-Gasket

OK , got the my new scuttle vent gasket yesterday, went to replace it and found what appear to be three screw or anchor points along the centre of the windshield edge (back hinge point of this rubber gasket. Yes, these are of course under the back edge of the vent which you cannot get at. Do I just pull the old gasket away or can the vent lid be easily removed so that the gasket can be anchored? The Vent lid is item, #42 Gasket is item #43 in the following image (Moss Motors Catalogue) I am hoping that I don't have to remove the wire spring clips 44, 45,and 46 or the lever control under the dash to do what seems to be an easy repair. Who am I kidding, this is a LBC

Don't have the car in front of me but don't you have to remove those clips? i.e. doesn't the rubber gasket go around them and the only way to get there is to set them free at one end?
 
Don't remember if it's like the TR4 or not. On the Four the springs clip into each side through holes, and you just remove the spring ends from the holes. Clear as mud. LOL The gasket then goes over the springs.

Yes - see the pic below.

There is a tensioner spring that keeps the door open or shut and prevents rattles. It connects to the door brackets at 2 places as shown. Just push the spring ends out and they will release from the holes in the bracket.
There is a spring clip that holds the opening lever on the bracket. Use some needle nose pliers to remove it and push the lever out of the hole.
At this point the door can be fully opened, allowing access to the three 5/16" (socket size) hex bolts that hold the door and gasket in place. Remove the bolts and there you go.

When I installed my gasket, I used clear RTV sealant to hold it in place on the cowl flange - applied pressure overnight. Seemed to do a good job.
