Also looking for a new "boot" seal
TRF Lists standard # (716630/138) T45 138 inch boot seal or
"Improved Boot Seal" similar to TR6 Style (613277(T45S14) 142Inch
What the heck is the difference or benefit if used on a 4A?
Please and thank you

I have had no problem with the original style seal (though mine may have come from Moss). The only challenge was getting the rear lip to hold when the lid closed -- had to use Gorrilla glue rather than the usual contact cement.

Maybe that is the difference. Maybe the 6 has a better groove.

Having said that... I recall a prior thread on the TR4 boot seal wherein someone had a repro with a decidedly different profile than original.

Perhaps there is a problem with some repros. A search of the archives may reveal more.

Oops, the discussion I recalled was from another list. The gist of it was this, some had a seal that seemed to have to wide an opening to get and effective grip even with adhesive. The profile of that seal looked like this:

The seal I obtained from Moss looked like this (except not out of focus):

Bottom line: In some cases all vendors are using the same supplier for a particular part but it would appear likely that there are multiple suppliers for this seal and the results may vary.

Is the boot lid pushing the gasket off or around at this point? (bottom centre)
This is the weakest point on my existing gasket
