After three weeks of waiting the 46 Ford 2 dr sedan rolled into my shop yesterday. Wife stopped on her way home from work and was kinda shocked at the size if the beast. Used to my usual small finds. All chrome was re-done and triple chromed including bumpers in 78 and wrapped in paper. Also came with 5 new wide white wall tires. No rust and just a few storage dings. All new glass and seals will be ordered by the week-end.

A tank! Looks like fun!

Should be a fun one. Late 30s-40s cars are starting to interest me some, maybe someday...

My interior guy will be here shortly and have quite a few folks(family included) that want to assist in the tear down..going to disassemble it and start making a list of need ed parts. Have the original drivetrain but am leaning towards a small block Ford eng/trans for reliability and a/c. Otherwise will leave it pretty much stock. No bling.

Got a great suprise this afternoon..seller brought me a big box with all the bumper over riders..along with all the rechromed bolts nuts and washers!! Plus all the headlite rings, parking and tail light chrome and new lenses. Plus all the dash chrome and other small stuff..all freshly chromed in 78 and wrapped and stored since then.

Nice for you, good for him.

Love them fat fenders, here's mine, a 39 Ford Standard. Gotta get started on it one of these days.

Jack, That got the flathead V8? I'd keep it if it does. On the other hand I totally understand the newer drivetrain idea, and I don't disagree. Your cruiser, your decision. It's gonna be awesome no matter what.

The flathead is out and apart but complete. All machine work has been completed and overhaul kit is there. Debating on what to do but if I go to the newer drivetrain will build and keep the original stuff.

The 59AB block had some issues for those who drive long and hard....issues not present in 1946.

One:

Replace all the vales, guides and springs with 49-53 8BA style.
One piece guides, straight stem valves.
Mushroom tips and split guides are a wear spot.

Then, new lifters (adjustable) as original solid fixed lifters aren't heat treated to withstand straight stems.

Rods.....get some 8BA rods, and preferrably an 8BA crank, using your cam and crank gear (different pitch to keep load of cover mounted distributor).
Originals are full-floating, rod bearings being ID size and OD size. Bearings cover two rods at a time, no locks. Resurface crank, resize rods, get bearings to match.
8BA have insert Clevite style, and two oiling holes per rod throw, unlike 59AB with one in the middle.

I have lots of rods, and Ford 8BA cranks.

Some valve train components, but you'll want new of that anyway.

50-53 rods have squirt holes that hit the cylinder walls when the point on the rod bearing lines up with the port in the crank throw. Engines last longer.

I forget...does the 46 Tudor rear windows work like 40-41? Turn the crank one way, window moves back a bit for ventilation, turn the crank the other way the window comes down?

Don't try to beat the rear drums and hubs off!

160 stats, fit into the necks of the heads....no higher (unless dead of winter).
Gotta have them. 60MPH with two water pumps, the water will all go to the top of the tank and over the side.

BTDT.

Yon can use 8BA cam and cam cover (have some of those, too) for an in-the-air distributor (have some of those) and there is a trick to locking it down without using an 8BA head.

Makes life easier.
