There were so many variations of the 4.6, I think from 218 hp up to 320 hp out of the crate from Ford, it would probably be a good choice, since performance parts are readily available. The Cobra version used in the high performance Mustang, as I was told, had a forged crank in it, along with other mods. Depending on what you want, the price can go from fairly reasonable to very expensive, but a little cheaper than the hopped up 427! PJ
