42 DCOE Webers

Hi all,

Glad to see this new forum! Should make for some interesting discussion.

42 DCOE appeared on quite a few "tuned" LBCs. A lot of factory team prepared cars were fitted with them. One key reason, believe it or not, 42s were cheap!

It seemed one of the big Italian car makers ordered a huge number of 42s from Weber for a planned production run, then cancelled or backed out of the deal... after Weber had produced a pile of 42s. It took some years for Weber to clear the inventory backlog, even offering them at bargain prices.

Yes, Simon, they were spec for TR2/3/4/4A. Now 42s are pretty rare and can be a little difficult to get parts for. Fortunately, many parts are shared with 40s & 45s.

Even when new, 42s had a few odd quirks. For one, the largest choke offered with them was 34mm, while 40 DCOE can be fitted with up to 36mm. Gotta love those Italians!

Alan, would the "Italian Manufacturer" be Maser? The 101 series? For the time period that's the only "eye-tie" manufacturer I can recall using the 42's... but I'm not that wick with Weber *history*.
