After ordering the new tires & wire wheels from Allen Hendrix. He said " by the way, have you checked your hub extensions?"
Huh?
So I sent him pics of the extensions & sure enough (& no surprise), they are worn down & need replacing.
i asked him, what would happen if I left the hubs on there?:
" they would transfer the wear to the new wire wheels in no time."
so I ordered the hub extensions from TRF ( luckily on sale for $49.00 each).
in the meantime, I got my impact driver out & started removing the old hubs. 1st one came right off ( only held on with 4 locking nuts). But the other three hubs are not so compliant. I rounded one nut completely, before I knew it. I have four other nuts that refuse to budge. Sprayed with PB blaster & letting it sit for 24 hrs.. I ordered a craftsman nut extractor ( has counter ridges in a socket format that bites into the nut) set from Amazon & hopefully will be able to get these things off.
if this doesn't work, I'll try removing by making indents in the collar of the nut with a chisel & tapping them off.
