The past few days all the avatars and emoticons have said "unauthorized image hot link" in a pink box. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it something I have screwed up on my settings? Any help would be great, if not, I don't come here for the pictures anyway. It is only making navigation a bit difficult.

In the "My Preferences" section, there are two items to check yes to see other's avatar and signatures


Wel, I just turned mine off and didn't get the error you're talking about. Might try expiring your cookies, then log back on. It could be the new forum software doesn't like an old setting.
 
No problem here. Did your problems just start in the last few days? The forum software upgrade was about 2 weeks ago. Wonder if your problem is related to that. I haven't received email notices since the upgrade.

I have got hot-link prevention turned ON on my server, but it should not affect you if you are on the site directly. What Hot Link prevention does is basically prevents other web sites from stealing images (and hence bandwidth) from my serve. If someone on some other web site tried to post an image from my server and they are not in my "authorized" list of domains allowed, then you will see that small pink GIF file. However, I'm puzzled as to why you would be seeing that here on this site unless somehow some security software you have is making my server think you are not accessing my site directly. What Browser are you using and do you have any such special security "stuff" turned on?

This is a Beta version of the forum software and thus has a few bugs - that being one of them. The developer is aware of this bug and hopefully will have it fixed in the next Beta version.
 
Thanks for all the response. I am using IE 7.0 with the phishing filter turned off. I use Norton Internet Security as an anti-virus/firewall. I think it must be account setting. I'll fool around with it a bit today and report back. Don't take a lot of time on this, Basil. It isn't a big deal.
It is the pink gif you were refering to, but I am accessing your site from this address not through any other server. I get it at work as well but I thought the proxy server at work was fooling the anti-hot link software.

OK I got it. It has something to do with the Norton Internet Security. I can disable it and the problem goes away. Looks like it is time to upgrade Norton anyway.

Your probably right. I've been a "Nortonite" for years. I had a copy of NIS 2006 laying around that hasn't been activated (bought a pack of developer discs for like $5 each). Put it on and things worked perfectly (with BCF anyway). When this one runs out (year from now)I'll probably switch to something else. I had been running NIS 2003 on this machine since I built it. I'm just glad I can see the pics in the gallery now.
