3000 muffler design

Hi folks
The two pipe in - two pipe out design of the Healey muffler is fairly uncommon as far as I know. But then, I don't know a lot about muffler design (other than the basics) and was wondering if anyone out there in BCFland knows where I might find a schematic or working drawing of the innards of one of these things. I'm just curious really as to how this muffler was intended to function. Does it use the characteristic perforated tubes, is it also glass packed, does it act as a resonator, etc.? It's one of the few subsystems on the car that one cannot take apart to see what's inside.
As always, thanks for the insight and advice.

I wish I had taken some photos but I did take one apart some time ago. It's common for earlier cars to drag occasionally so after dragging for awhile the thing just opened up. The two front pipes just extend into the muffler, not perforated. There was a center set of baffles offset, then the two rear pipes exit out the back, that's all. There was a packing of some sort rather loosely wrapped around the innalrds looked like fiberglass. I had the notion that maybe a good muffler shop could repack it and seal it back up but I never pursued it.
