3000 Heater Valve

After rebuilding my heater system and then having it sit on the bench for three years, I have suddenly gotten the insperation to reinstall it. While checking over everything, I found I did not like the way the heater valve was leaking by (static test) so I took it apart and found the diaphragm was dry rotted. I do not see any listed in the catalogs and was wondering if any one knew were to get one? It looks like the entire valve is available, but what fun would it be to not try to rebuild the old one, only to end up getting the new one after many hours of frustration.(repair humor)

Hey- Hey,

A talented fellow like yourself shouldn't have to spend more than a few hours on this project.

Seriously, I have made new fuel pump diaphragms in the past when I couldnt afford a new pump.

Find a good industrial supply house or even some auto supply shops. Get some fabric reinforced but flexible gasket material. Cut to size & shape. The hardest part may be attaching the new part. In the case of fuel pumps, the pull rod was run through the center of the diaphragm, with a washer on each side, & the end riveted. Carefully grind off the rivet head to get things apart. Drill & tap the end of the pull rod for a suitably sized screw & reattach the new diaphragm & washers with the screw. Use Loctite as required. If you are lucky, the diaphragm is already attached with a screw. Doubt it though.

If it works on a fuel pump it should certainly be much easier on a low duty heater valve. Think of the satisfaction.

Thanks Dave, I have been doing alot of fix up work and fabrication the last month or so. Just making one should have been my first thought. The old biting snake. Glad to hear from you, Basil said you were in the garage for awhile.

Well Dave, CDK can play like he made it and save some money to. Order the MGB valve and use its innerds to repair the HLY Unit-FWIW---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

That sounds like a good idea. I will have to attempt to make one first of course if for no other reason then to prove to myself ( read that to mean Dave R) that I can.
