$300 for a hardtop - reasonable?

Hi all,

I'm going to see a hardtop on the weekend. The owner says the glass and seals are in good condition, no serious damage, but maybe a little 'shelf wear'. I expect it will need a prime & paint.

1) It was for a '72, my research seems to indicate that hardtops fit either bugeyes OR fixed-window cars OR roll-up window cars, so anything that fits a '72 should also fit my '78. Sound right?

2) Does the asking price of $300 sound reasonable? What's the range on these?

NOPE!! Bugeyes & early Midgets w/o roll-up windows used 1 type ardtop, mid year Midgets used another type & later cars used a 3rd type. Factory hardtop that will fit a '72 will NOT fit a '78, sorry.

'78 should have a hardtop that is smooth along the bottom edges; '72 should have a 'notch' along both bottom edges right at where it meets the 'B' post.

$300 is on the high end!

I'm not sure where the model change occurred, but I think somewhere around '68 and onwards they are the same.

Early cars with side curtains was 1 type top
Early cars with roll-up windows was another type top
Later cars was the third type top.

I also am not sure when the break point was...but the '78 top should look like this - notice the bottom edge is smooth (i.e., no cutout):

It had to relate to the point when they enlarged the cockpit opening for the "fixed" convertible top.
