3 Synchro Gearbox Wanted

Looking for a usable gearbox for my 64 MGB for this summer as I won't be able to do a 5 speed conversion till next year. Let me know what you have.

My motor is missing its data tag so, although I think its a 3 main bearing engine, the only marking on the motor is the "18" in the casting at the rear of the head. Understand there is some difference in input shaft diameter.

PM me or email me at

If you have a mechanical tachometer, it's a 3-main engine. If there is no attachment for a mechanical tach then it's a 5-main.

If you weren't so far away, I probably have one.

Ah, my car does have a mechanical-cable driven tachometer.

So, anybody have a 3 synchro crashbox (early) in decent shape?

Jay

Tony,, how much do you want for yours?

Only weigh about 35 lbs, should be easy to ship.

About $60 to ship, Jack!

Hmm, less than 2 bucks a lb, cheeper than steak.

Tony,

Let me know if you have a transmission to sell me. Paying the shipping is not all that bad.

Thanks,

Jay

Jack, I think you'll find they weigh more than that.....

PS - a 5 main box will work if you have the input shaft turned down.

So, Tony, since we are talking about buying schtuff...

If you happen to have a 'pumpkin' diff and axles from an early B (3.9:1) that is taking up space in your workshop, could you PM me with a price... There is a guy locally that will sell one to me but the $$$ seem to be a bit high. The axles need to be for spoke wheels....if that makes a difference..

This all comes from a thread that I started about 5 speed conversions that ended up with a suggestion by marinmg to raise the gearing in the diff of my A from the original 4.3:1 to 3.9:1 that seems to be a great idea...

Nope....Rained most of day (should say we got what Ft Worth had yesterday!) & when it broke I went to machine shop to get my '63 Midget engine.

Sun's back out; ground's almost dry - gonna look tomorrow

If Tony doesn't have one....

100 bucks + shipping.....

Not bad but, can't vouch for the condition of the lay shaf & 2nd gear syncro.

(maybe other stuff)

But I got a nice rebuild-able one there.

If you can'tlocate one closer..I have a few at my shop. Parted out a few early B's a while back.

Found a couple but I need to open the inspection panel & look everything over real closely.

If you still need one, I have a spare off a 79 in MI that I don't want to have to move to Cincy. Let me know. the_stonestreeets"at"yahoo.com.
