3 point seat belt installation help

When I bought my car, it had three point belts. Do to their age, these were not safe, so I bought some new ones. I reinforced the bolts going through the floor on either side of the seat. The part in question is the shoulder belt. The PO had the shoulder part bolted to the hump behind the seat. Does this sound OK? They seem to fit fine this way, but I was concerned about safety. I had thought about drilling a hole through the fender wells or attaching them to the side walls so that the shoulder part would be higher. Does it really make a difference where this is fastened as long as it it reinforced well? For those that have a three point belt, where did you fasten the shoulder part to? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

On an old LBC without factory attachment points, the best you can do is a big (biggest you can fit) gussett plate on the backside of the metal.

Pop-rivet it in the corners and put some seam sealer under it to keep the water out.

If you have available an arc welder, once you set it up, and before you pop-rivet it in, weld the appropriate nut on the back.
Easier to install and remove that way.

Let me get this straight.....he has the shoulder harness crossing from outside low to inside higher?

Shoulder harness over the shoulder isn't gonna do you much good when you need it.
You'll flip out of it (and destroy your shoulder, depending on speed) in any significant bang faster'n a greased pig outta a rednecks grasp.

If you must do over-the-shoulder, you need a 4-point at least.

Or, bolt it to a roll bar.
