TR4/4A 3-point belts in a TR4a

I would like to do the same thing on my TR4A. Photos from other owners would be very helpful. Also, advice on the best belts to buy.

I installed the static 3 point belts from TRF last year. I can snap some pictures later this week. Other than what Aaron noted, it really isn't too difficult, since the 4As have provisions for lap belts (2 of three mounting points) already.

I guess I can think of one other gotcha - before drilling, check for interference with the top bows. There is very little room at the top of the wheel wells when the top is down.

I think the inertia reels mount below the upper fixed mounting point. You may want to ask some TR6 guys to take some pictures, as I used the static belts.

Retractable ones you would have to drill a 4th hole in the side of the wheel well, and weld a captured nut there (at least i'd weld the nuts, so that you get the strength of the body along with it, and not just the tear strength of a bolt through sheet metal.

Personally I find the 3 point static harnesses far more comfortable than retractable ones in my tr6, because of the low mounting / pivot point for the retractor, it digs into my shoulders.

I've no financial interest in this company; I'm just a satisfied customer and could easily find the web page I was looking for.

Many companies such as Andover offer a wide variety of mounting and other belt-related hardware. Whether you use a reinforcement bracket or proper reinforcing washers, I suspect that the mounting strength will be about as good as it can get in any "vintage" car where such mounts were not engineered into the original body structure.

The weather was to good on Sat.
Everyone stood outside looking up at this big bright orb and wondering what it was!
