Man does this thing rock! First thing I did is get on the interstate and pass ~everybody~!

What amazes me is how much it changed the transmission. First gear is actually usable now. It still has grunt to get you out on the road but is long enough not to leave you grabbing another gear to keep you from getting run over. The car is so much more usable. It completely changed how the car drives. IMO it's perectly suited for the 1500's torque curve.

Wonderful news!
So what is your rpm at 70mph now?

So you are getting 19mph / 1000rpm.
No need for a 5 speed when you have that!
Very nice upgrade Billy, Congrats!!

With my dogleg 5 speed and 3.73 rear end I am getting 20.5 mph / 1000 rpm.
My engine has plenty of grunt for pulling away in 5th and I also got my car up to 95mph once, just a tad under 4700 rpm in 5th gear.
With a very badly worn front suspension the car started feeling a little too squirrelly for my comfort.

Now I have rebuilt my suspension but I have nowhere I can safely and legally test my car's abilities...

I also feel like my carbs are just adequately working but no where near performance tuned, they are balanced but I'd like to play with different needles for tuning purposes. Maybe when I don't have several other cars to build or whatever...

Cool...no need to track down an overdrive Spitbox and all the attendant structural mods either! I know what I'm saving MY pennies for now!!

Make sure you tell Moss I sent ya!

Although the 3.5 ring gear and pinion is a nice option for a 1500 Midget. I think the A-series crowed is better served by the datsun 5-speed.

I told you it would be good with just a 4 speed.

That you did my friend, that you did!

I'm tempted to agree with you on that. I'd have to drive Kim's car to say for sure one way or the other.

Now that I have a 3.55 I can drive to North Carolina and see for myself.

Kim, what are your thought on the 3.55 w/ a just a ribcage?
