upon further investigation it appears that the small gear between first and second is wore...id say its about 70% good...ya i know it needs replaced but 2nd gear is expensive also.....
what exactly does this skinny gear do and how will wear affect my shifting ect.?
also does anyone have an economical replacement to let go of?......thanks guys......zzzimmmy

What gear are you talking about? there is no gear between 1 and 2? do you mean the 1&2 shift hub and outer ring? If you are talking about the outer ring then you can just buy the outer ring.

its the small teeth here in the picture, next to the 2nd gear cog.....

YIKS! Well the cause of the damage was shifting with worn syncos. The fix is the replacement of the gear. I have some stashed in the shop. Where are you located?

to remove it, do i take out that little cotter pin that is crammed in on the right in the pic?.....zzzzzz

Yea, you gotta use a paper clip wire kinda thing and press in the spring loaded thingie. then ya rotate the collar and pull the collar then the gear off.
To install reverse proceedure....sorta.
