TR2/3/3A 23K TR-3

Are you saying that this car sold for $23,000?

I suppose the admonition against commenting on auctions should apply to B-J as it does to eBay but suffice to say for that money I would have expected a much better example.

Did you notice that the picture of the car doesn't match the description (wire wheels, wide whitewalls)? Also, the car appears to be righthand drive in one picture and lefthand drive in the others.

I believe I looked at this car when it was in the wait/display tent. I didn't note any other TR3's.
It was very weak actually considering it's company.
The engine bay had been sandblasted and the deep pitting under the paint was very evident. Fit and finish poor to good.
Incorrect items etc.
Some elements of the car were well done but others looked very poor.
But prices for TR3's are up
ROADSTER 1957-61 2.0/100 4C poor 7,500... good 18,500... excellent 26,000, and show 32,000.
I did see some nice Heallys and Jags though.
And another very tired TR6.
Not too many LBCs in attendance.
Many just enjoy buying in that venue. 15 minutes of fame and all.

Wow, there's a happy seller somewhere..... this car doesn't even have a working heater!

I guess we should be nice..... sooner or later, the new owner will find BCF....

The rear floor doesn't look a 58 sloped floor. They even painted the battery with red overspray. A rotis resto Not.

Let's see : No air filters. No heater hoses? It states ovedrive but where's the dash switch? TR4A valve cover. SAE fuses?

Fact is, someone bought it. Values are up. But BJ is it's own artificial market anyways.

I believe the OD switch was an aviation safety switch in the normal dash position.
The air filters were on when I saw it but I'd forgotten how poorly the interior was done.
I didn't hear it run though.

I stole this from the heally site...

337 1961 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 MARK I CONVERTIBLE 21000.00
699 1959 AUSTIN-HEALEY 100-6 CONVERTIBLE 39000.00
931.1 1966 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 BJ8 2 DOOR CONVERTIBLE 55000.00
949 1960 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 BT7 ROADSTER 65000.00
970 1960 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 BN7 ROADSTER 57000.00
The last 2 cars were done by a restoration company that specializes in AH's and they were beautifull and undriven/fresh.
I'm sure the seller was upside down in cost vs. sell price. Actually the overall sell prices were on the low side compared to past years...not a bad thing really...a bit of a market adjustment that was/is needed.
Makes the TR3 very unexplainable in its condition.

I am not at all surprised by such big prices for TR-3s. All one has to do is drive a nicely sorted one to understand why they're so popular.

I'm thinking about my next LBC, may be a TR-3. Gorgeous cars, IMHO.

Good to see these prices rising, especially in a somewhat shaky classic car market these days.

Mark,
I agree about the TR3's but they never floated on the market bubble like some cars did (AH for one).
I'm sure the dealer bought his own cars back in the 'no reserve' BJ extravaganza.
BJ loves to bark about all of the 'sales' but many owners buy their own iron back if it doesn't get the numbers they want. BJ gets its comission regardless so maybe the 'sale' sign they place on each window means their com sale.

THAT went for 23K a BJ?!?!?!? It was what I would call "common" under the hood. Lots to pick at under there.(most has laready been mentioned)
Overspray on batt. Body plates seem to be missing, TR4a Valve cover, head painted red incorrectly, paint is so-so under hood....
Just buying it fom another person, or a shop, It's a nice car. But the description makes it sound concourse.
It's a very nice driver..... but....
Man.. If they're getting 23K for that, I can't wait to see what my TR2 will be worth when I'm done....

Definitely two different cars photographed. Engine shot shows antenna hole in fender. It's not there for the exterior photo.

Looking again -- It seems likely that the car pictured in the three-quarters shot is not the one on offer. It is a RHD and the mailbox in the back ground appears to be for the Royal Mail.

At least the buyer at B-J gets to see the car in person and not rely on photos.

The good news is that many of the incorrect or indifferently dome items could be remedied quite simply so if the car is fundamentally sound the buyer may be all right.
