Why do I get the feeling that some idiot is going to go for 210 feet?

What happens after he reaches 200 feet up? Beanos to ease the fall?

Paul-
I knew it... you are a rocket scientist!

Seems they need a more efficient nozzle design and some StopLeak. :smirk:

So I'm not the only one instantly thinking of how to improve on their design...."That was pretty good, but if ya'..."

Bring on Mythbusters...

They lose easily 30 feet by releasing the brake 1/2 second after initiating the thrust! (and a lot of leakage!!)

The Mentos need to be held in place magneticly so the don't have the slits in the pipe and the bottles could be mounted on a better angle.

I think the nozzle design was pretty clever, although it may not have worked as intended. neat how the used the first stage to increase velocity then dumped weight as quickly as possible with the second.

You could make a three stage. What they should have done is cap the ends of the inner pvc and used them as rams to push off the backstop before releasing "propellant". The second stage would then be the original first stage and so on.

Give me a couple of days and I'll get 30 more feet outta that thing. :hammer:

It might go further if they used "high-test fuel"...

Can we shape PVC 3/4" to nozzle shapes? Heat gun and some adapted dies? Mebbe th' BCF have enuff "Rocket Scientists" to better that 209 by a TON?!?!

Sure glad I saw this. What the heck would happen if an individual popped a few Mentos after quaffing a can of Coke Zero? :thirsty:

Now you just might have started the "Cola Derby" doc :jester:

An' that's a bad thing, how?!?!

I needs to be diet coke. The artificial sweetener is one (of several) magic ingredients needed to produce the effect. (I know, I saw it on Myth Busters)

I'm in! I work with some geeks that are amazing at this kind of stuff. We'd have a good shot!

Surrogate "sugars" and base compounds! Nobody considers the CO2?

I suggest 300 feet as a silly "demarkation" point!!

doc's on the jazz :jester:

It's all about th' NOZZLES!!!
