Spitfire 205/60 13 tires on a spit?

I'm deciding on autocross tires for my dirt cheap autocrosser and have been looking at the Sumitomo HTR200. Has anybody run these and if so what do you think? I've got TR7 steel rims with countersunk lug holes, I believe these are 5.5 inch wheels, correct? I'm planning to run 205/60 on the rear and 195/60 on the front. Will these sizes fit without rubbing? I've got conflicting information from my research on the web and would like to hear from someone who's tried it. Also what about 215/50s, according to the manu info minimum rim size is 6 inch, anybody tried that? The car is a 79 Spit and will have GT6 front brakes. By the way a hearty welcome to all the new Spit owners out there.

If no one has an answer to your question, a way you can find out is to locate a tire shop and have them install used tires in the size you are looking for. You will have to pay for the mounting, but if they think you will buy from them, it may not be that much.

A lot easier then buying new ones only to find out later they do not fit.

I have 195/60/13 HTR200 on my tr7. They are a GREAT tire, and they look great on the car. I think that some guys put 205/60/13 on, but I have not tried. Great tire, and great choice, but I really can not help you with the spitfire fitting. The TR7 came with 185/70/13, I think the spitfire did too...i think?

Stock Spitfires came with 155 wide tires 175/70 is pretty commonly used because the speedo reads correctly. I'm running 185/70s on my driver and they are a little tall for my tastes. I am attracted to the Sumis because they have the wider sizes that are hard to find in a 13 incher and the price is great. I found some used 205/60s and 195/50s I am going to pick up this week to test the fit before I lay out for new ones.

I got a set of nice TR7 wheels if anyone is interested. Comes with some nice tires.See my add in the classifieds

Eric, the 205's will rub on the sway bar on full turn, so you need to adjust accordingly on the wheel stop. If you are running the GT6 front brake with the TR7 wheels, you will need to grind the caliber on the top side to get clearance. Been there done that.
