2015 winter projects: Blog #6. '60 TR3A Edit Blog

This afternoon was a steering assessment session.
TR3driver(Randall) & Geo observed that the zerk fitting on my steering box was a red flag of steering problems and meant I need to take some action:

After reviewing post from Some of the pro's on this forum And getting a basic understanding of what a worm/peg steering overhaul entails, I contacted Macy's garage (spoke with Dave) and got their input on the rebuild.
while it is not that complicated, it must be done just right to ensure the effectiveness of the seals and bushings. If you extract your assembly & send it to them in Tipp City, OH. The complete overhaul can run up $1200.00......a lot more than I figured, especially when you can replace with new rack and pinion mod. for about $1000.00. So I need to reevaluate my goal now.

I am not a concours guy.
in fact most of my project this winter are improvements for daily driving.
The main reason I was leaning toward the overhaul was to save $ ( so much for that).
I have read favorable & unfavorable reviews on the R&P, so I assume that the professionalism of installation is the deciding factor, if you take the horn and signals out of the equation.

Note: I got the impression that if the worm & peg are sorted and correct there is no complaint.
I'll rethink this tomorrow.

I got started on the stator tube & wiring.
No problem removing the horn head plate from the steering wheel or the stator tube.
but the drop arm linkage stalled me out.
without the proper pitman gear puller it is next to impossible to separate the two linkages, w/o damage to something. I'll check around tomorrow for a rental.
i'm sure I'll need to separate this anyway, even if I do decide on R&P.

long winded: but helps me think.
