As our 2 cars get older (2004 & 2005) I've started paying more attention to new cars. They seem almost universally boring, at least to look at. One exception is the newer "new" VW Beetle - I think the new styling job is brilliant.

Am I the only one?

You're not speaking for me. I really like the new-new Beetle. I want one!

I like it a lot better than the last "new" version.

My wife has the old "new beetle" and she is not fond of the new "new" beetle at all - her reasoning is that the old "new" one was a chicks car - and that there are few enough chick cars out there without redesigning it to make it more masculine. I tend to prefer the new "new" beetle, which I suppose proves her point. Oh, and I keep that opinion to myself. I ain't that stupid :D

Very few cars designed in the last few decades have appealed to me in any way, that said I am also told I am a bit 'off.' I think the reason the new new Beetle is better looking than the old new Beetle is that the lines of it look more like the old Beetle.

New bus coming, last I saw would be released fall 2013. I'm anxious to see it but looks too small for a couple hippies to live in.
The older the beetle the better.

Have you considered one of the TDI VW's?

I know a few people (mostly women) who have old-new Beetles and they all hate the new one. We almost bought an old-new one about 3 years ago but got the Saab instead. That said, the new one has better back seat headroom and I would like that but the shape moves farther away from the original, looks longer and lower. That doesn't really bother me but those tail lights are just horrible. The first version round units looked much like an updated version of our '74 Super and I really liked that.

With Mini's, Beetles and Fiat 500's out there... why aren't there retro Japanese cars (offered in the US, I know about the Figaro, etc.)? I'd like my retro served up with a side of reliability.
