Electrical & wiring has proven to challenge me more than mechanical.#1; I didn't have the best tools for doing real auto electrical work.
#2; having done so little electrical, in general, getting my head wrapped around the basics has taken a lot of time, causing false starts and procrastination.
Finally I realized I will just have to go in headfirst.
after all I can't do something that can't be undone.
#3; there are no complete guides or manuals (that I have found) for the type of improvements & modifications I'm trying to do.
(Surprisingly enough one of my biggest conundrums is deciding where to place relays, switches & fuse boxes)
Following the wiring diagram, i installed a replacement 6 gang switched fuse block.
(Definition of "switched ": only active when the ignition switch is on)
(BTW: with all the other mods I'm doing I decided to get a 10 gang for the switched side, so I am waiting on parts again)
The original fuse box depends on two fuses for all electrical circuits.
one unswitched fuse is for the horns (I think)
one switched is for everything else.
(if this one goes you pretty much lose all your electrical)
My goal is to spread the load among 8-10 fuses, & have a couple extras for future use. Replacing worn wires & installing certain relays to further reduce the load and increase efficacy.
doing this without making it look amateurish is another challenge.
i installed the starter relay yesterday & have picked a pretty good place to secure it on the same plane as the solenoid.
