1. Valve cover gaskets.... I have a selection, neoprene & cork, which combo of red/blue/none rtv should I use for which one?
2. Rivergate or Morriservice?

On my B I tried those new silicone gaskets, and ended up switching back to cork. I went "old skool" and used Indian Head Gasket Shellac to "glue" it to the valve cover and just a smear of grease on the side that goes to the block.

Now that my Rivergate clutch is slipping, I wished that I had used Morriservice.

Jeff, what my plan is, I'm trolling for that 1275 motor on ebay and rebuild it and the ribcase together; get the 5sp hooked up to my current motor so both can be permanently mated, but for different uses.
That being said, your (#2) answer is correct.

I hope you get the 1275, Barry. I've been accumulating enough bits to build one from parts. Or two. I just went through a ribcase, so no need for tranny work.
If you get the engine, feel free (as always) to ask anything regarding the rebuild.

Thanks Jeff, the first thing I'll do is drop it at the machine shop for cleaning, pressure testing the head and measuring, see what's salvageable and what needs super new stuff. It may yet be a dud.

Barry, I was going to go the Morriservice route before I sold the 5-speed to you. The more I researched, the more I liked his engineering choices. Prices are more or less similar. I should still have the PDF info that I got for the Moriservice kit lying around somewhere -- I'll pop it in the email to you.

I have something weird to share. In my small engine mechanic days, the valve cover gasket on Honda's engines required nothing more than cork. And when the shop's supply of gaskets was exhausted, we could easily seal a wet clutch with high-temp rtv (the orange gasket-maker from Permatex, I believe). Neither the RTV or the cork would ever leak and never did I use both.

gawd, the orange stuff is great - isn't it??? I absolutely love the stuff!!

When those wet clutches started to fail they would melt the plastic dipstick, deform metal-reinforced oil seals, fuse clutch plates together, and yet the orange high-temp rtv would still hold. Good Stuff.
