TR6 2 minutial questions on the TR6..just bugging me

Here it is, 5:00 am Sunday morning, reading some posts and catching up on email. Second cup of coffee. This may seem trivial but I have two really insignificant questions. 1. On the auto show that BBC produces and has circulated on the forum where the TR6 is testdriven, have any of you noticed that the bonnet prop seems to self-actuate when the bonnet is lifted back? That is, it lifts so the bonnet can be closed without picking up on the rod (prop). Two much coffee, ya think? OK, on to 2. Are those queer (meaning peculiar) little rectangular red reflective tabs that appear on so many TR6s right below the taillight assembly stock or aftermarket. This has bugged me. I think Kodanja has them and have seen them on a bunch of other cars. I just thought that Kodanja was cool and everybody was following his lead. Again, way too much coffee.

My coffee's topped up, second pot brewin'... IIRC, most of the TR-6's I've seen have had the "ramp" on the bonnet stay. Lift it slightly and the stay would release.

No clue as to the reflectors. But after the BMC/BL "merger" there were a lot of "odd" things done at port on this end. Royston (in NJ) "added" stuff to make the cars "compliant" with ever-changing Fed rules.

Re: 2 minutial questions on the TR6..just bugging

I have noticed that most LBC we see on TV have been pimped a little, so it is difficult to establish what was original.
Just my $.02.

Doesn't look like any TR road time today in SE PA. We're supposed to get a deluge and wet most of the week.

Cheers

I always thought there were lights behind the relective tabs till I removed them and cleaned them up. They are STOCK but I belive they stopped putting them on the TR6 in 72'.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

If anyone is interested I do have an extra set of them.

I think those reflectors were a 1 year only last minute add on to meet whatever Government standards were in place at the time.

Re: 2 minutial questions on the TR6..just bugging

I agree with roofman - I didn't have them on my 69 TR6 nor on a 71 I had briefly. Maybe it was some short-lived regional thing, east or west coast? Both my cars were Texans.

Off topic slightly - but you also see a lot of early TR6's with those Amco bumper guards fore and aft - maybe this is something similar?

Bill,

I noticed that also. I thought maybe someone was standing just out of the camera shot and nudged the rod so it released.

If there is some kind of release out there I would sure like one, original or not.

Reflectors WERE short-lived, the subject of a recall campaign.

The accessory bumper/grille guards seemed initially somewhat popular on the TR6 but less so after a few years.

Dang, Andrew, where do you find this stuff?

Bet ya'll didn't know that there was a recall on the 73 or 74 TR6 that mandated that the gas filler cap be rotated 1/8 of a turn so that the cap wouldn't inadvertently fly open.

Go figure.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, I've been a 'net surfer for many years...but I've also been a nearly lifelong fan and "student" of Triumphs! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I remember the recall from when the cars were new!

Thanx! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif
