This is the line that enters my fuel pump

1. Can Infer from its length that there is another metal line between it and the line that goes under the car to the gas tank? (i.e. from tank to pump - metal line (under car) rubber line - metal line )over tranny) - this line into pump?
2. The brass fitting on the right end is the one that goes into the pump itself. How do I attach it? will it hammer in? there doesn't seem to be a set screw or anything.
