Okay.
When I got my 2.4L MK2, it was hosed in several areas.
Got most fixed (fan shield, removed inop a/c, added raio panel with heater controls, connected heater, got doors to open, fabricated mounts, etc).
The Solex carbs were wrong.
VW or MB. Steel lines cut, rubber hoses and clamps, poor cold performance, okay warm.
Obtained the correct Solexes and steel lines, cleaned and rebuilt them, installed and adjusted.
Cold is fantastic, Choke lever works with one finger tip now, instead of hitting it with your palm.
The copper line for the distributor advance came with them.
This car had no such line, rather vacuum ports under the manifold (like drains) connected to lines, then off to the distributor via a "T".
I cannot get the fittings out.
I just for now connected them together (plugged on the other side, as the car runs the same with hoses or no hoses).
My Parts Manual does not show any parts there, yet these are in a cast in boss on the bottom of the plenum.
What is supposed to be there on a 2.4L MK2?
I need to play with the timing a bit now.
Apparently, it was set up for manifold vaccum to the advance, rather than the correct ported vacuum.
Used to ping a bit, does not now, and, it runs much cooler on the gauge.
But, has a flat spot mid-range, like lean.
Could just be timing (altho I noticed it is much less so since I got the ported vacuum connected tonight).
I do not know the float level. Cannot find a refernce for same.
The kits for the carbs came with two brass rings each float valve, I used the thicker one as it was closest to the thick fibre one that came with the carbs.
Anybody know the float level for one of these Solexes or what thickness sealing ring should be used?
On the timing.
All my books say static, not dynamic,
That right?
Use a 12V bulb and set the crank, then rotate the distributor to set the timing like an old Bug?
Nobody uses a timing light on these?
Boy, that was a long post.
