1993 XJS alarm reset?

Yes I've messed up my new car.
Just purchased my 1993 XJS coupe 4.0. Long story about why I disconnected the battery but I did.
On reconnecting it I have the Alarm beeping and lights flashing. The car still starts and runs ok, and while running no alarm but when off it starts again. Have read there should be a reset button but have not found it yet,
Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look:

" ... just reach behind the panel on the right side of the trunk (boot) and unplug the ECU for 5-30 min. Plug it back in and you are back in business."

Welcome to BCF!

To reset the Jaguar XJS alarm, manually unlock the driver's door with the key, then cycle the ignition (On-Off-On-Off-On) within 15 seconds to disarm it; if that fails, try disconnecting the car battery for 10 mins for a full power reset, or check your owner's manual for the specific emergency disarm method for your model year, as procedures vary slightly between models and aftermarket systems.

Standard Reset (After Battery Change/Key Fob Issue)

  1. Unlock Manually: Use the physical key to unlock the driver's door.
  2. Ignition Cycle: Insert the key and turn the ignition to the 'On' position (without starting the engine).
  3. Repeat: Turn it OFF, then ON, then OFF, then ON again (or cycle On/Off three times within 15 seconds).
  4. Check: The alarm should disarm, allowing you to start the car.

There are two fast possible solutions to check before you start to try a reset.
Be absolutely sure that both doors and the boot are fully closed and the switches are contacting.
When I first got my 94, I had to remove the door card for a while.
I didn't realize the chrome trim at the A pillar is required to contact the switch.

Thanks. Pressing the fob five times on the alarm sounding worked first time. So I must of had the boot shut as well as the doors.
I will now write down all this information for next time.
Cheers for all your effort..

Just wondering here ... where did you find the "press the fob five times" clue?

Congrats on the victory!

Hi Tom. I've only owned the car a few weeks and needed to address a few things. As I amin the States US forums came up first and I joined.
The site is Jaguar forums .com The member goes by Malc4d. This is a cut and paste of his message.

Ok. This works on cars up to '93. Disconnect the battery (make sure you have the radio code), when you reconnect the battery, the alarm should make a beep sound. press the keyfob button and the alarm should respond with a chirp. Do after each sound (5 of them) and the alarm will be re-coded to the fob. If you have more than 1 fob you must recode that at 1 of the beeps.
If that doesnt work you will need to reprogram for the '93 system. this is more complicated.

Hope this helps Richard

Thank you sir!
