1989 Xj6 Not Starting

My 1989 Jaguar xj6 is not starting. The air and radio come on, but the dash lights do not light up. The engine does not move, their is a slight click noise when I attempt to turn the engine on, but it does not budge.

First thing to check is the inertia switch. It is located in the drivers side footwell. It cuts off all ignition circuits if tripped. There is a button on top. Push it down to re set.(Sometimes helpful to pull up, and then re set) If that is not it, check the battery is charged, cable connections are clean and tight. It is rare to have a starter go in these cars, but not unheard of. Also check that shifter is actually in park. By the way, I have come across a set of 89 owners manuals for the XJ6. $20.00 plus shipping and it is yours.

Well, it was the inertia switch. My only problem now, is that my brother, while attempting to remove the starter, my brother removed just part of the intake manifold, and the old O-rings are too old to put back on. My current quest is for 4 O-rings. I thank you for the offer of the owner's manual, but after this, I've already ordered a manual.

Just FYI, the starter is fairly easily removed from the bottom. There ARE things the manifold has to come off for, but usually you can just unbolt it from the engine, and all the other Hu Ha that Jag hung from it, and you take it out whole.

I have a 1997 jag xj6 where exactly is this inertia switch? do you have to remove a panel to get o it if so how? Please help.

Oh I am sorry I am having that problem with it does not crank over or start with new battery and when we parked it had no problems. although it sat for 3years. What could it be even with a new battery the starter doesn't even have a clicking sound? Help please.

hello I have a 1997 xj6 jag I had the car sitting for 3 years with no problem before now I tried to start it with a new battery and nothing. Where is the inertia switch exactly? Dose the panel need to be removed and what does the switch look like? please respond.

Not really familiar with that year, but I would check the starter relay. Also, try hitting the starter with a hammer while someone has the key in the start position.
