1979 wont go into reverse

my 79 LE mgb has only 38000 miles and has been running great but now when i push down the clutch it doesnt always fully disengage and wont allow me to go into reverse....clutch resevoir is full and no leak spots under the car.....this is gettin to be a real problem because its my daily driver....any help greatly appreciated....also ive got a junked 1980 mgb with lots of spare parts if anyones interested

when I can't get into reverse, I usually put the car into 2nd and let the clutch out just enough to make the car move about a 1/2". Usually, I can get into reverse right away after that.

Sounds like clutch hydraulics are "on the edge" here. Pump the pedal three or four times before you try to engage reverse.... If it "falls in" after that, you need to renew or rebuild the master and slave cylinders. Doing both at the same time will be saving you the trouble of doing MOST of the same job twice.

Do your floormats hinder you from pushing the clutch all the way down?

i actually checked my pedal and found that the carpet on the firewall is folded down and i have glued it back up...we'll see if theres any difference once it dries, also i noticed there is a spring missing on the clutch but im going to assume that has to do with the return and wouldnt affect its disengaging

Just might. Would not allow or force the clutch cyl to take a full gulp when it is let up.

3rd/4th snycro, reverse selector, reverse idler gear...

carpets are out of the way and i moved the seat up to make sure it gets pushed in all the way...still having some issues but hoping to flush the hydraulic system this weekend maybe theres air in there.
