MGB 1974 MGB Questions

Hi
I have recently found a 1974 MGB while looking for parts for my 1972.
It looks like this one https://www.conceptcarz.com/view/photo/284914,9609,0,0/1974_MG_MGB_MKIII_Photo.aspx
in regards to car body and bumpers.
It appears to have had a lot of work done on it and is not completely finished yet.

Thus the question as I am thinking about buying the 1974 and selling the 1972, due to all the work that has been done on the 1974.

The vin number or commission number is GHN5UE355878G and the date is 7-74.

From what I can find out this is before MG raised the height 1 inch, is this correct?

What else does the Commission number tell?

It appears that the car was stripped down and reprimered and then had the engine compartment and under the hood and the boot and under it's hood and the passenger compartment all recoated with a maroon color, I would call it.

Was there such a original color?

Thanks

'74 is before MG raised the ride height.

The number you're talking about is the VIN & other than the standard when it was built & for which market info, its just used as a vehicle number - on an MGB it doesn't tell the original color.

In '74 there was a Carmin Red that was sorts like Maroon.

Could be, Bob...but without seeing it......

Hi Norton47,

You've got a "Sabrina"; originally came with the big black blocks attached to the chrome bumpers.

Yes, the raised heigth "rubber bumper" chassis was later in the year.

Someone can refine this, but, the front height actually raised a little circa 1972. The front coil springs are different part numbers before that if memory serves.

Technically, the 1974-1/2 received the raised ride height and rubber bumpers, but retained dual HIF4s.

The 1975 model year brought the *beloved* Zenith Stromberg 175 single carb to the US market.

The 1974 model year for the MGB saw three different versions....the chrome bumper with chrome overriders and rubber inserts; the "Sabrina" bumpers with the big rubber blocks; and the true rubber bumpers.
